Description
This draughts board with protruding fields and inscription E.H.S. ANNO 1760 was once used in a horse-drawn barge. The board was dug up from ‘It Far’, a now-closed tow canal in Hommerts. A similar draughts board with the same inscription E.H.S. is in the Scheepvaart museum in Sneek. In 1985, the then director ten Hoeve of this museum was informed of this find.
Considering the inscriptions and year, it is likely that this draughts board was a precursor of the one from 1769 and belonged to the same owner.
The reverse side is flat. The deep compartments are grey, the higher compartments are black. The border around the board is dark red and the inscription is in red-black.
